Be Active Brands, Inc is “Moo-ving” Probiotics to the Next Level in Consumer Goods

Ice Cream Industry Innovator Introduces
Jala™ Bars and Frozen Yogurt Sandwiches

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 27, 2011 - When Marc Wexler and Sam Pugliese, took an impromptu trip to the Kentucky Derby together, one wouldn’t have guessed it would change history. Well ice cream history that is. Both men had successful careers in beer distribution, a thirst for life, and a love of horses, but ice cream never really entered their minds. But it was on this trip that Sam suggested an opportunity to his friend to supply a premeasured yogurt mix to ice cream and yogurt shops. That suggestion then turned into their manufacturing the product on their own and distributing it themselves in the form of frozen dessert sandwiches call “Silhouette.”

Through the contacts they had developed in their earlier careers, Marc and Sam went door to door to retailers, introducing them to the revolutionary confection. With a little luck, and a lot of tenacity, they slowly built up a retail footprint.

When they were opening up their own factory in nearby Brooklyn, they renamed their product to Skinny Cow™, and the rest is history. “It was amazing that this little company of four people was able to put all of that together so well, said Sam Pugliese. “ Now, a few years later, we are at it again at Be Active Brands, launching Jala™ Bars.”

Only this time, the marketplace is very familiar with Sam Pugliese and Marc Wexler, the two men that made ice cream a not so guilty pleasure. Just when people thought good couldn’t get better, the two creative confectionaries formed Be Active Brands™, Incorporated and introduced Jala™ Bars to the market, the all-natural frozen yogurt bars and sandwiches.

Each delicious Jala™ bar contains just 110 calories and is rich in antioxidants and probiotics - which may help to promote healthy digestion and boost the immune system. Jala™ Bars are also a good source of the calcium, offering approximately 10% of the recommended daily allowance for calcium and about one third of the recommended daily allowances of Vitamins A, C and E. The bars come in three delicious flavors, Vanilla Blueberry Swirl, Vanilla Pomegranate Swirl, and Lemon Sweet Tea Swirl. The Jala™ Chocolate Fudge Bars are one of the first ice cream products in the world to feature the potential health benefits of probiotics.

Jala™ Yogurt Sandwiches are available in 2 delicious and low fat flavors - Vanilla Chocolate Combination and Low Fat Vanilla Sandwiches. Each Jala™ sandwich is only 140 calories and contains 2.5 grams of fat. Jala™ Bars and Sandwiches are the only all-natural yogurt and ice cream products that contain active probiotic cultures.

“It’s the mission for us here at Be Active Brands™, we have always believed in developing products that not only taste good, but are good for you. Jala™ Bars is no different,” company co-founder Sam Pugliese states. “We saw a void in the marketplace for a healthy treat that contained essential vitamins, anti-oxidants and probiotics, that how we arrived at Jala™ Bars.”

What is Jala? Jala refers to a traditional Sanskrit term for a form of cleansing practiced in traditional yoga. “Essentially, Jala™ refers to the health benefits of the active probiotics that are in the products themselves,” quotes Marc Wexler, Be Active Brands™ second co-founder. “It also refers to how you feel after having the product itself… all the delicious indulgence without any of the guilt.”

It’s been a fast track to market for Be Active Brands™, partly due the reputation and relationships created when Wexler and Pugliese developed Skinny Cow, then complimented by the product’s quality and taste. Jala™ Bars and Yogurt Sandwiches are already available many retailers throughout New England and southern states such as Stop and Shop, Publix, Shop Rite, C Town Markets, D’Agustino’s Supermarkets, HEB Stores, Giant Foods, Whole Foods, and others.

Be Active Brands is targeting fall 2011 for full national expansion of the brand. If history repeats itself for these two visionaries, that shouldn’t be a stretch at all, haven taken their first product from $o in sales their first year to over $76,000,000 in sales a year. If history does repeat itself, at least in the history of ice cream, it looks like it will just keep getting better for the rest of us thanks to Be Active Brands™. Chaney's goes national.... sort of

Kentucky ice cream hot spot Chaney's Dairy Barn went National this week, national TV that is. My beloved FX show "Justified"  shows US Marshall Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) using a pint of Chaney's as a distraction as he sneaks out the back door to go do a little investigating on his own.

Being me, I immediately went to investigate this mysterious ice cream as soon as the show was over. I had a little trouble guessing the spelling, but I got there, and sure enough, my suspicions were confirmed when Chaney's posted the above picture. I'm guessing the use of Chaney's has much to do with the fact that they were picked by USA Today as the best spot in Kentucky. Ofcourse, the real Harlan is over 200 miles east of Bowling Green, and to be honest I'm not even 100% sure those pints even exist, but either way, you can't beat free publicity!

Only two more episodes left of season 2 of Justified, but don't worry, there will be a season 3!

3 more flavors from Mars!

2010 saws the introduction of M&M chocolate ice creamSnickers vanilla ice cream and Twix caramel ice cream (image) from Mars. It apparently went well because there are 3 more flavors coming!! I nearly wet myself when I saw the words "Snickers" and "Rocky Road" next to each other.

SNICKERS® Rocky Road Ice Cream
Chocolate and marshmallow ice cream, chocolate-covered peanuts
and chopped SNICKERS Bar pieces.

TWIX® Peanut Butter Ice Cream
Peanut Butter ice cream, chocolate swirls, cookie balls
and chopped pieces of TWIX Cookie Bars.

MILKY WAY® Ice Cream
Chocolate malt ice cream, smooth caramel and chocolate chunks.
(my review here)

Availability began in January 2011

Building on the success of Mars Ice Cream pints introduced in early 2010, the company is adding three more flavors to the portfolio, bringing the total to six choices.

The new Candy Pints have everything you expect from Mars Ice Cream: real ice cream quality, great taste and iconic brands — all at a good value. The delicious new flavors are ideal for consumers who desire 16 ounces of real ice cream, not a frozen dairy dessert.

Two new Target Ben & Jerry's flavors

Guess what? April is national volunteering month and so Scoop It Forward is back with two new flavors. Check out this article about the new target flavors Volun-Tiramisu and Peanut Butter World. With Brownie Chew Gooder and Berry Voluntary, that makes 4 flavors in all!

photo courtesy of eat my words

Volun-tiramisu (would  looks like Tsunami to me) is coffee mascarpone ice cream with cocoa dusted coffee rum lady finger pieces. As long as it's more tiramisu than it is coffee, it should be decent.

Peanut Butter World is milk chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirls and chocolate cookie swirls, and since I love pb & chocolate, and since I love that great chocolate cookie swirl, this one should be awesome.

Update: Ok, check out my Volun-Tiramisu review

With Four New Flavors Featuring Coconut Sugar & Superfoods.

The Organic, Coconut Milk-Based Frozen Dessert Line Is Still Soy-, Dairy-,
Cholesterol-, Gluten-, And Cane Sugar-Free, But Features Bold And Exciting New Tastes.

EUGENE, OR — A little more than five years after Luna & Larry launched their first retail-ready line of Coconut Bliss ice cream, featuring groundbreaking all-organic ingredients such as coconut milk and agave syrup, the company is blazing a new trail with the introduction of four new flavors featuring coconut sugar, a sweetener new to the food scene, and superfoods.

"Introducing new flavors is big news for us because we only do so after a lot of testing in our home kitchen, months of testing with our tasting team, and when we are sure we have a winner," says Larry Kaplowitz, co-founder of Bliss Unlimited, LLC. "But we are doubly excited this time because of our new ingredient, coconut sugar, which, to our knowledge, no other ice cream maker is using."

According to tester reports, coconut sugar has added a richer flavor and distinct caramel tones to the four new flavors, which include Ginger Cookie Caramel, Chocolate Walnut Brownie, Mocha Maca Crunch, and Lunaberry Swirl.

"Coconut Bliss lovers will be delighted with the new flavors — some of which were inspired by customer requests — and the luscious taste that coconut sugar adds to them. It's quite different than agave syrup." explains Kaplowitz.

All the new flavors feature coconut sugar and are free of soy, dairy, gluten, and cane sugar. All ingredients are certified organic, non-GMO, and are fair trade when possible.

Ginger Cookie Caramel features Spicy Cookies And Creamy Caramel In Rich Vanilla
Ingredients include: Organic caramel sauce made with coconut milk & coconut sugar,

NOT NEW - Starbucks Mocha frappuccino Ice Cream Bars

It always amazes that I can go to a place like BJs wholesale club and find what appears to be a new product because I've never seen them before.

Yet I go out on the internet and discover these came out 2 years ago. That's right, they were part of the original Starbucks release. Searching for reviews.... searching for reviews.... here's one from last year FROM MALAYSIA and that's about it.

Hey, if anyone from Starbucks is out there, you might want to consider pushing some free samples out to the bloggers of the world to get more press for these things.

Waffle cone flavored ice cream?

Now it's only available at stands that serve Perry's, but they've come out with a waffle cone flavored base with sprinkles mixed in. Now that's unique (and way tastier than this) Check out their blog post here.

Breyers closing two plants

174 Breyers employees are now out of work now that their 47 year old plant in Framingham is being shut down. About 30 employees with hang around until the official closing at the end of May. It's not that Breyers is having trouble, it's that they've moved production to a more modern and efficient plant in Convington, Tennessee. Breyers Hagerstown, Maryland plant is next in line and will be closed by the end of the year. (per the Boston Globe)

photo from google maps street view

I'm going to miss this plant. I always loved driving down the turnpike and being reassured that fresh Breyers was close at hand.

from bing maps bird's eye view

This shutdown is actually two years in the making and explains why they painted over the silo awhile back... also notice the old Sealtest logo on the building on the right. Funny how brands fade away... well, technically Sealtest still exists in Canada, but they no longer sell ice cream.

It's good that this is a production move and not a shutdown, but it's still sad. Good luck to everyone that was let go, there are lots of people out there who know exactly how you must feel right now.
