NEWS FLASHBACK 2006 : Ben & Jerry's Milkshakes

Doing a little vacation time internet surfing, I stumbled across these.

Apparently, life made me totally miss these in 2006. According to USA Today, these Ben & Jerry's milkshakes were made by Pepsi and sold in Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, and Chunky Monkey.

Oh to enjoy 8 fluid ounces of "a euphoric milk beverage".

Despite unending praise, the flavors didn't survive long.... It's a shame, especially after reading Marvo's comments on flickr. Ok, sorry to make everyone hungry/thirsty for a shake.

Mooresville Ice Cream launches new
Front Porch : Carolina Churned Ice Cream

Mooresville Ice Cream Company, located in North Carolina and maker of Deluxe Ice Cream has launched a new product line to embody the spirit of the Carolinas in a handy dandy premium pint container. I've gone over their new flavor selection and I like what I see. That me show you their most unique flavor.

This is Sweetie Tea
It's sweet tea vanilla ice cream with chunks of tea cake.

Looking up teacake on Wikipedia : a tea cake is a traditional dense large cookie, made with sugar, butter, eggs, flour, milk, and flavoring. Yeah, that just makes this ice cream sound even cooler.

So, they've got some good sounding flavors and some fairly catchy design work going on, so they should be just fine. Here's wishing these guys the best of luck.

Oh, and as a side note, they also had the most excellent Damien Lewis at their Mooresville plant filming scenes for Homeland. You can see a few pictures up on their facebook page.

Blue Bell releases popular Rocky Mountain Road Ice Cream

The flavor made a limited debut last year
for the company’s successful Colorado expansion

BRENHAM, TX - When something tastes this good, you have to share it with everyone. Blue Bell Ice Cream is beginning the year with the release of Rocky Mountain Road Ice Cream, a flavor previously available only in Colorado.

Rocky Mountain Road is a rich, dark chocolate ice cream combined with dark chocolate-coated peanuts, milk chocolate-coated pecans, white chocolate-coated almonds, and roasted walnuts, all surrounded by a flavorful marshmallow sauce swirl.

This ice cream flavor was introduced last year, but only in Colorado to commemorate the company’s entry into Colorful Colorado and to honor the magnificent Rocky Mountain scenery.

“This is the perfect flavor to help us kick-off 2012,” said Paul Kruse, Blue Bell CEO and president. “The residents of Colorado fell in love with this ice cream last year and I think it’s a great flavor to share with all of our Blue Bell fans. One spoonful and you’ll agree that we did not skimp on taste or ingredients. The peanuts, pecans and almonds each coated in a different flavor of chocolate are what make this flavor unique. ”

Blue Bell has created several market specific flavors over the years which are only available in a select area, and like Rocky Mountain Road, several of those have gone on to become available company-wide. “When we introduced Key Lime Pie Ice Cream in Florida, even though it was made in Brenham, the employees couldn’t even sneak out a half gallon,” Kruse said. “And just like Rocky Mountain Road, it soon became available to everyone.”

Look for Rocky Mountain Road in stores this month. The ice cream is packaged in a unique dark blue half gallon with snow-capped mountains and the company’s signature cow and girl logo in gold.

CANTON, Mass., Feb. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of ice cream enthusiasts throughout the country competed to be named the winner of Baskin-Robbins' Second Annual Online Flavor Creation Contest. After tallying the online votes, Baskin-Robbins today announced that Kelsey Lien of Santa Clarita, California has won the Online Flavor Creation Contest with her innovative ice cream submission, "Nutty Cream Cheese Brownie."

"Nutty Cream Cheese Brownie," the November 2012 Flavor of the Month, is a flavorful combination of chocolate fudge ice cream swirled with a cream cheese ribbon, combined with walnuts and fudge brownie pieces. To celebrate her winning flavor, Kelsey visited Baskin-Robbins' corporate headquarters in Canton, Massachusetts on January 31, where she worked alongside the Baskin-Robbins' culinary team to create the very first batch of her new flavor.

"On behalf of everyone at Baskin-Robbins, we are happy to congratulate Kelsey Lien on creating such a fun and delicious new ice cream flavor," said Dan Wheeler, Baskin-Robbins U.S. Vice President of Brand and Field Marketing. "This year, we received an incredible number of inspired Online Flavor Creation Contest submissions and we are thrilled to see so many ice cream fans getting involved in not only entering the contest, but also participating in the voting process."

"All of the flavors created sounded delicious, which makes being chosen as the contest winner even more of an honor," said Kelsey Lien, a student at University of California, Irvine, whose area of study is economics and public health. "'Nutty Cream Cheese Brownie' was inspired by my love of baking and is meant to bring family, friends and loved ones together to enjoy a modern twist on the traditional brownie. I'm very excited to share my flavor creation with ice cream lovers everywhere when it debuts this November in Baskin-Robbins stores nationwide."

The Online Flavor Creation Contest began in October 2011 and asked consumers to mix and match their own ingredients to create a signature ice cream flavor from 31 base flavors, a variety of ribbons such as fudge and peanut butter and a copious amount of mix-ins including candy pieces and cookies. Ice cream fans voted for their top 10 favorite flavors and chose the winning flavor, "Nutty Cream Cheese Brownie."
